From stress...

Picture
It's nothing new to say that chronic stress negatively compromises our health. The stressors seem to be the pressures and worries related to work, relationships, health, finances and loneliness.

This stress is really no good.

The impact of life-work stress, regardless of where the stress originates, means high potential for personal suffering.

Stress contributes to:
  • A variety of health problems such as: increases in blood pressure, heart rate and stress hormones, headaches, neck, shoulder and low back pain and stomach problems...
  • Professional and personal screw-ups because you: are easily frustrated and unable to deal with even small problems, can’t think straight, find it hard to focus, are unable to make a decision, can't concentrate, are forgetful, lose your temper, feel jumpy and say things you regret...

Anyone newly diagnosed with an illness, living with a chronic illness, or facing a life-threatening one, confronts additional dimensions of stress. From keeping track of medications and medical appointments to managing pain, other symptoms and complex treatments, being uncertain and frightened about the future and being in the shadow of death brings stress to a whole new level.

Do whatever you can to reduce stress in your daily life
  • There are lots of options. Activities, hobbies, spending more time with friends and family, change of priorities, relaxation and meditation.... the list is endless. You can do-it on your own, see a therapist or a coach or, any combination.

Don’t wait for compromised health to reflect on what really matters to you
  • Think about how you are currently living, your priorities, your actions and how you spend your time. Then, aim for making choices each day that reflect what is most important to you.

Connect to people
  • Meaningful relationships are central to your happiness and the source of great stress is the failing or failed relationships to people who are important to you. Belonging and connecting is an excellent buffer to stress.

If you are experiencing more stress than you want in life and in work, you will find that coaching sessions are a great kick-start to stress-reduction.
